Sarah Jane "Salty" (Sands) Ferguson first heard about the All-American League when she was a senior at Bloomsburg High School in the small town of Orangeville, Pennsylvania. Word made its way to All-American scouts about how well she performed while warming up with the men's baseball team at her high school before games.  She was offered a tryout opportunity in Allentown.  Shortly after beginning her tryout, she was offered a chance to play for the Rockford Peaches.

Known for her fielding and good base running instincts, Sarah was often a defensive replacement or pinch-runner late in games.  In fact, "Salty" loved her time as a professional baseball player so much that she would later say that it "was the greatest experience of my life."

After baseball, she married William Ferguson and had two children.  She also went on to work for the military for a time and later for Youngs Farm Supply for nearly 30 years.  Prior to fully retiring, she drove a school bus.  As for sports, she notably coached a championship winning slow-pitch softball team in her post-playing career.
